[Introduction to the competition]
Quantum computing is regarded as one of the new computing models with disruptive influence in the future. Unlike traditional computers, quantum computers follow the laws of quantum mechanics and process information through quantum bits. Based on the properties of quantum bits such as coherent superposition and entanglement and the reversibility of quantum circuits, the computation speed, and energy consumption are much better than traditional computers. With the continuous development of research, quantum computing has great potential application value in artificial intelligence, data search, material design, bio-pharmacy, economic management, and other aspects in the future.
Google recently announced that it had completed a calculation in 200 seconds using its 54-qubit Sycamore quantum computer, while the same calculation would take about 10, 000 years to perform using today's most powerful supercomputer, the Summit. Although quantum computing has many attractive revolutionary advantages, it is a complex system engineering with many technical challenges from hardware, software, algorithm to system integration. At present, the quantum control technology is not perfect, and the hardware development cost is high and the scale is small, so it has become an effective way to promote the development of quantum computing in software, algorithm, and hardware. To this end, Huawei launched the quantum computing software HiQ cloud service platform based on the company's leading information and communications (ICT) comprehensive technological advantages and achieved phased research results in the quantum simulator and programming framework, marking a key step in the research and innovation of quantum computing. In the future, Huawei will continue to invest in this field.
The Quantum-artificial intelligence science and technology research center (QuArtist), from the college of science in Shanghai University, integrates quantum computing and artificial intelligence. QuArtist devotes itself to cutting-edge research on the basis and application of quantum computing and artificial intelligence, and carries out industry-university collaboration combining quantum software, and hardware. Some of the center important research lines include Digital - analog quantum computing, quantum simulation, quantum machine learning, quantum communication, and quantum sensing. Last year, QuArtist of Shanghai University and Huawei jointly held the seminar of "quantum technology -- academic and industrial meeting", and conducted exchanges and cooperation with the research team of Huawei quantum computing in the quantum optimization algorithm.
This event will explore establishing co-operative education mechanisms, using the quantum computing software developed by Huawei: HiQ Huawei cloud services platform, in a quantum programming contest. The goal is to bring together undergraduate students, graduate students and the innovation guidance of senior researchers, to promote technology research and the industrialization of quantum computation and quantum programming. This event is also directed to promote quantum computing to software engineers and to provide algorithm training for future engineers; To further train quantum programming enthusiasts to explore the application of quantum computing, quantum software and quantum algorithm innovation.
Shanghai University and Huawei will jointly hold the 2020 Shanghai University-Huawei quantum computing hackathon competition. This cooperation will also promote the fundamental and applied research of quantum computing and strive to make pioneering and cutting-edge work. It is hoped that the students of Shanghai university can actively participate in this competition, jointly innovate and promote the research of quantum computing technology.
The quantum computing hackathon will be organized online and will require contestants to complete several challenging quantum computing programming topics within a certain time period. The ranking will be based on the comprehensive integral of the correctness of the solution and the performance of the algorithm.
